I bought my first Afghan as a pet in 1967 and made up my first Champion, Bondor Barbarella, at Crufts in 1973 where she was Best of Breed.
I began judging in 1976 and my first Championship Show appointment was in 1986. My first “overseas” appointment was awarding Green Stars in Ireland, in 1996. Since then I have judged Afghans at Championship Show Level in Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, Finland, Belgium and Italy, as well as in the U.K . I am also involved in the training and assessment of would-be Afghan judges.
Interspersed with all this I bred my first litter in 1971 and my most recent in 2003. Ch Shadowfax Savannah Dawn, born in 2001 is a British, Danish and Swedish Champion and her litter brother Ch Shadowfax Stepnoi Veter is a British, FCI International and Multi Champion and completed his career by winning Best of Breed at Crufts in 2009. Most recently Int Chs Shadowfax Ciao Aquilo and Ciao Agrippina, born 2003, have both been campaigned to their Slovenian titles. I am a member of the English Kennel Club. I have served on the national Afghan Breed Council as the Breed’s Liaison Officer with the English Kennel Club.
My particular interest in Afghans is the history of the breed. I have a large collection of British Afghan photographic and video memorabilia and I have had several articles on the early history of the breed published in Britain and the USA. My kennel name (Shadowfax) should label me forever as a child of the great 60’s and 70’s boom in the Afghan’s popularity.
I am honored and delighted to be invited to judge at your show this year.
